What Should a Realtor Wear for a Headshot? Why Your Wardrobe Matters

You only get one chance to make a first impression.

For Realtors, that first impression can happen long before a potential client ever meets you. Your headshot may be on your website, business cards, signs, social media, listing presentations and advertisements. People are going to see your image in a lot of different places.

So what you wear matters.

We've photographed thousands of people over the years for everything from corporate campaigns and advertising to personal branding and real estate. One thing we've learned is that wardrobe can make a big difference in how an image comes together.

And sometimes, what you think is going to look great doesn't.

Other times, the outfit you're unsure about ends up being one of your favorite looks.

That's why we don't expect you to walk in knowing exactly what to wear.

Bring Options

There isn't one outfit that works for every Realtor.

Think about the kind of business you're building and the clients you want to attract. A luxury Realtor may want a more polished look, while another agent may feel more comfortable with something relaxed and approachable.

Bring a few options.

Solid colors are usually a good place to start. Clothes that fit well tend to photograph better. Simple, clean styles give us more flexibility with lighting and backgrounds.

But don't get too caught up in the rules.

We've had plenty of clients bring something into the studio and say, "I'm not sure about this one."

Then we put it on, light it properly and take a look.

Sometimes the outfit you almost left at home ends up looking fantastic.

That's one of the advantages of working with an experienced photographer. You don't have to figure everything out before you arrive.

We'll Guide You Through It

Being in front of a professional camera can feel uncomfortable if you're not used to it.

That's completely normal.

We'll guide you through the entire process, from what you're wearing to how you're standing, where you're looking and how you're expressing yourself.

We pay attention to the small things.

Maybe a jacket looks better open. Maybe a different shirt works better with the background. Maybe a color you normally wouldn't choose photographs beautifully under our lighting.

We'll try different things and you'll see the difference as we go.

You are in good hands.

Our goal is for you to walk out of the studio knowing you have photographs that look professional, natural and like you.

Our Commercial Experience Comes Into Play

We've spent more than 18 years working in commercial photography and production, where wardrobe, lighting, styling and composition all have to work together.

That experience has taught us to look at the whole picture.

When we're photographing a Realtor, we're thinking about how your clothing works with the lighting, how the colors photograph, how the image will look at different sizes and how it represents your personal brand.

You don't need to know any of that.

That's our job.

Think About Where Your Photo Will Be Used

Your headshot may end up on a large real estate sign, a business card, your website, LinkedIn, a listing presentation or an advertisement.

That's why we like creating different looks during your session.

You can change jackets, shirts and expressions and create several options from the same shoot. We can then help you select the images that represent you best.

The goal is to give you photographs you can actually use throughout your business.

Don't Overthink It

If you're unsure about what to wear, bring it anyway.

That shirt you love but aren't sure will photograph well? Bring it.

The jacket you're debating? Bring it.

The outfit you think might be too simple? Bring it.

We'll figure it out together.

After years of photographing people and producing commercial work, we've learned that you can't always predict what will work until you see it in front of the camera.

So don't worry about getting everything perfect before you arrive.

We'll guide you every step of the way.

You just need to show up ready to look your best.

You only get one chance to make a first impression. Let's make yours count.
